Part 1
I still vividly remember the excitement I felt years ago when I picked up my mother’s new saree from the tailor. I wanted to try it on right away, but I didn't get the chance until a few years later. Left alone at home for school while my family was out of town, I decided to finally search the wardrobe and find that exact saree.
My first attempt was a complete chaos—the blouse was loose, and the long fabric was impossible to manage! After hours of struggling, I somehow draped it and was so exhausted that I ended up falling asleep in it. That messy first try sparked a real passion. Over time, I completely mastered the art of draping pleats and pallus, and I even maintained my body size just to fit perfectly into my mom’s blouses.
At 29, I am finally turning my lifelong dream into reality: becoming a successful woman entrepreneur.
Embracing my true feminine identity hasn't always been easy, but it gave me the courage to pursue my passion for fashion and tradition. After long discussions, my family agreed to fund my dream of opening a boutique saree store—with one exciting challenge: sell 100 sarees in 30 days.
This is more than just a sales target; it’s my chance to prove myself, build my business, and share my love for sarees with the world.
Day 1: The Journey Begins!
As a proud Secret crossdresser, my love for sarees runs deep. Over the years, I’ve mastered the art of draping and wearing them with confidence and elegance. Naturally, opening my own saree boutique felt like the ultimate dream—a way to surround myself with what I love every single day.
Today, my mom and I visited the wholesale market. Armed with detailed research, I confidently selected 100 sarees featuring the latest patterns, fabrics, and vibrant colors. Astonished by my knowledge, my mom asked, "How do you know so much about sarees?" I smiled and replied, "I’ve done my homework."
I also wanted to buy matching blouse fabrics and petticoats to offer complete sets, but my mom said: just 100 sarees to start. With a challenge in her eye, she said, "Your 30 days start right now!”
Just when I thought the challenge was big enough, my mom added a twist: no physical store yet—I had to run the entire business from home.
Selling 100 sarees from a living room felt almost impossible! But there was no time to freeze. As soon as we unpacked, I invited my mom to be my very first customer. Touched by the gesture, she bought two sarees that I personally handpicked for her.
Fueled by that small win, I launched a WhatsApp catalog group, added relatives and friends, and uploaded high-quality photos of the collection. Enquiries started. Whileq many loved the designs, they hesitated at my pricing.
I even started posting instagram and youtube videos of each and every saree with details. On that day I was able to sell only 2 sarees to my mom.
So I pulled myself and waited for days 2
DAY2: Many suggested that I stop this nonsense and get a job. Many asked the price and did the comparisons with others. No result by the EOD.
Day 3: A Slow Start
My social media posts received a few views and likes, but no one messaged to buy.
By Day 7, I had sold only 5 sarees in total. I felt crushed and deeply discouraged. Sitting beside my mom, I pressed a soft saree against my cheek and asked softly, *"What should I do now?"*
She looked at me and said, *"This business was your idea, so you need to figure it out. Go outside, get some fresh air, and let your mind clear."*
I walked outside with a heavy heart, even questioning my own dream. *Did I really love sarees that much? Did I truly want to be an entrepreneur?*
Then, I stopped. Across the street, a male shopkeeper was wrapping a saree around himself, passionately demonstrating its elegance to a customer to make a sale.
That moment sparked a brilliant idea! I ran back home, energized.
**Me:** *"Mom! I know how to sell these sarees, but I need your help."*
**Mom:** *"What is it, dear?"*
**Me:** *"We need a model to wear the sarees so people can see how beautiful they look."*
**Mom:** *"We can't afford a model, or even a mannequin right now."*
**Me:** *(I wanted to tell her that I was going to be the model, but I held back.)* *"I know someone who will do it for free!"*
**Mom:** *"Who?"*
**Me:** *"Give me a few minutes, I’ll show you!"* I rushed into my room.
**Mom:** *(Laughing)* *"What a crazy kid..."*
A little while later, while my mom was busy in the kitchen, I walked up behind her.
**Me:** *"Mom..."*
**Mom:** *"Yes? What is it? I'm busy right now."*
**Me:** *"Just turn around."*
She turned around and gasped, completely stunned.
Before her stood a confident person wearing a beautifully pleated, crisp saree with a perfectly fitted blouse, complete with elegant makeup and glossy lips.
**Mom:** *"Who are you, dear? Are you a friend of my son?"*
**Me:** *"Mom... it’s me."*
She froze, unable to believe her eyes. *"Is that really you? How... why?"*
I smiled brightly and declared, *"Yes, Mom! I am going to be the model for my store and show the world just how graceful these sarees truly are."*
