Chapter 2: Where the Blue Scarf Falls

Present day — the following morning

The House stood at the edge of Kamathipura, squeezed between old buildings and new construction.

From the road it looked like another tired concrete block. No sign. No name. Only dark windows and a security camera above the entrance.

Kusum knew better.

The Uber stopped at the service entrance. She looked up at the building for a moment before getting out.

It could have been any morning in Mumbai.

But The House was difficult to explain to anyone who had never been inside it.

There were cameras in the corridors.

Medical rooms behind ordinary doors.

Women who arrived frightened and learned, slowly, which staff members could be trusted and which ones could not.

There were rules.

There were consequences.

There were also moments when someone was allowed to make a decision nobody else would have made for them.

Kusum had begun noticing those moments.

Usually, they were very small.

She was part of an operation.

One man had been under observation for weeks.

Philip.

They had his messages, his habits and enough evidence to know what he was.

He lied easily.

He liked control even more.

The decision had already been made.

Kusum was part of the test.

Philip thought he was hunting her.

He had no idea the House had already chosen him.

Ramesh, the day guard, gave her a quick nod and opened the door. He avoided looking at her.

Kusum had worn the long trench coat in the car. Inside the building, she removed it and handed it to him.

“Keep it here,” she said.

Ramesh took the coat.

His eyes flicked over her for a second before he looked away.

The elevator required a retina scan. Kusum stood alone inside and watched the doors close.

She remembered when her old face had opened doors for her.

Now this face did it instead.

The elevator stopped on the third floor.

Medical wing.

The smell of antiseptic reached her before the doors were fully open.

When the elevator doors opened, she smelled Madhuri's perfume.

Kusum stopped.

Madhuri only wore it on days when something more than routine maintenance was planned.

Something was happening.

Madhuri was already waiting in the corridor, cream linen, tablet in hand.

Beside her stood a woman Kusum had never seen before.

She was carrying a cardboard box.

The woman looked at Kusum, then quickly looked away.

“New?” Kusum asked.

The woman nodded.

“Three months into the program.”

Kusum looked at the box.

“What's in it?”

“Clothes.”

“For you?”

The woman nodded again.

Madhuri glanced up from the tablet.

“Kusum.”

The warning was quiet.

Kusum understood.

But before she turned away, she looked at the woman again.

“Keep one thing.”

Shilpa stared.

“Anything. A photograph. A stupid little thing from home.”

“I have a blue scarf.”

“Keep it. One day you’ll wake up and not remember what you used to like. The scarf will still be there—proof that someone once asked what you wanted and you chose.”

Shilpa frowned.

"And the scarf will help?"

"Maybe not."

Kusum touched the edge of the fabric.

"But you'll remember that there was a day when somebody asked what you wanted, and you chose this."

Shilpa looked down at it.

Kusum's voice became quieter.

"Keep one thing that still feels like yours."

The woman looked at the scarf.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

"Good."

Madhuri closed the tablet.

"Kusum."

The warning in her voice was enough.

Kusum stepped back.

The girl still held the blue scarf.

Kusum looked at it once more before turning away.

She couldn't explain why the scarf mattered.

She only knew she wanted Shilpa to keep it.

“Turn.”

She turned.

“Again.”

She turned again.

When she looked back, the new girl was already being led through another door.

Kusum watched it close.

For a second she almost followed.

Instead, she looked down at her own clothes.

Then at the coat lying in Ramesh's hands.

It was only a coat.

Yet she couldn't remember the last time something had belonged to her simply because she had chosen it.

Kusum stepped back.

She stood in the mesh beneath the hard corridor lights while Madhuri walked a slow circle around her.

“Kusum.”

Madhuri's voice brought her back.

She turned.

“Look at me.”

“Acceptable,” Madhuri said.

Kusum knew the word well.

It meant she had passed.

"Follow."

Her heels clicked against the polished concrete—Louboutin.

The examination room was white and cold, the temperature kept at eighteen degrees to keep everything stable.

Latha, the House's biomedical engineer and medical director, stood beside the table.

She was also Kusum's former girlfriend.

She was in a white lab coat over her usual navy-blue Kanjeevaram saree with a gold temple border. She wore it on almost every maintenance day. Titanium restraints were built into the edges of the table, padded with medical-grade silicone. They had not been used for six months.

Kusum still looked away whenever she saw them.

“On the table,” Latha said. “Standard position.”

Kusum climbed up, reclined, and let her legs fall open over the edge. There was no modesty. The chastity cage sat heavy and obvious between her thighs. Cold air tightened her nipples against the gold hoops until the sensation became a steady, unwanted pulse.

“Remove the dress.”

She peeled it down and off. Now there was only the suit—the second skin that began at her head and ended at her toes.

Latha began with the piercings.

She cleaned the left nipple hoop first, rotating the gold slowly through the flesh. The sexual pressure arrived bright and precise. Kusum’s breath caught. Latha did not pause. She repeated the process on the right, then the navel, then ordered Kusum’s mouth open so she could inspect the tongue barbell. Latha moved from one piercing to the next without saying a word. There was nothing gentle about the examination, but every touch still sent a sharp sensation through Kusum's body.

“No issues. Everything is permanent.”

Latha tapped something into the tablet.

Then the chastity cage.

Latha positioned a mirror between Kusum’s legs and angled it so Kusum had chance to look. The titanium device filled the space where her genitals should have been, sealed against the suit at every edge. Latha tapped the metal with one gloved finger.

The small metallic sound made Kusum's stomach tighten. The sound was small and final. She pressed the remote.

The internal mechanism tightened.

Kusum's hips jerked. A raw moan escaped before she could stop it.

The pressure climbed quickly, filling her with heat, then stopped at exactly the point where her body wanted more. Her thighs tried to close on nothing.

She could see all of it in the mirror.

She stepped closer, reached down, and rested two fingers on the cage. She pressed. The pressure spiked. Kusum’s back arched against the table. The distress came back as pure heat that simply sat there.

“Eight months,” Madhuri said.

She checked the lock.

“You eat. You sleep. You work. You're maintained because you're valuable.”

She looked at Kusum.

“Don't confuse that with kindness. You earned what happened to you.”

Today, you get a suit upgrade.

Kusum’s breath caught.

“Thirty-six F. Inserted through the areola so the suit stays intact. You’ll feel every millimetre as they expand.”

Madhuri’s gloved fingers traced the outer curve of Kusum’s breasts, slow and deliberate.

“They will be heavy. Sensitive. Every step, every breath, every time someone looks at you, you will feel them first.”

The lightest touch turned into heat that had nowhere to go. Kusum’s nipples tightened hard against the gold hoops. The cage registered every pulse.

“Please,” she whispered.

Madhuri smiled faintly.

“You’ve begged before. Do you remember what you wanted then?”

Something dark flickered behind Kusum’s eyes—restraints, a man’s voice—but she forced it away.

“I don't remember anything before the suit.”

The lie came easily now.

Madhuri watched her for a second longer than necessary.

“Good.”

She switched off the screen.

“Lie still. The procedure begins now.”

Latha administered the hormone injection without comment. Heat spread through Kusum’s body almost at once, thicker and more insistent than usual.

Then the real work began.

Latha cleaned both areolas with cool antiseptic. The gold hoops were temporarily removed. A fine needle entered the left breast first, sliding beneath the skin with precise pressure. Kusum felt the initial sting, then a slow, building fullness as the expander was positioned and the first measured volume of fluid was introduced.

The sensation was intimate and relentless.

Her breast swelled gradually under Latha’s careful hands. Every millilitre registered as a deep, rolling ache that quickly became something else—something warm and humiliatingly pleasurable.Kusum’s hips shifted helplessly against the table.

Madhuri watched from the side, arms folded.

“Breathe,” she said quietly. “You’re taking it well.”

The right breast followed. Same careful insertion. Kusum’s breathing turned shallow. The new weight settled into her chest like a claim. The gold hoops were reinserted through the now fuller, more sensitive flesh. Even that small motion sent bright sparks.

The new curves were high, full, and impossible to ignore. They moved with every breath. The suit made the skin hypersensitive; the lightest brush of air felt like a caress.

Latha examined the result, pressing gently along the underside of each breast. Kusum made a soft, broken sound she could not stop.

“Thirty-six F,” Latha confirmed. “Stable. Permanent.”

Madhuri stepped forward and rested both hands on the new weight, testing the give, the heat, the way Kusum’s body responded.

“You’ll feel them every moment of every day,” she said. “That is the point.”

Kusum closed her eyes. The cage was throbbing. The new breasts felt like they belonged to someone else—and yet the sensation was already becoming hers.

“Dress,” Latha said.

Kusum pulled the dress back on. The fabric dragged over her sensitive skin. She put on the trench coat.

When she stood, the new weight pulled at her shoulders and chest. Every step made the gold hoops move, sending continuous low sparks through her body. The cage registered every one of them.

In the elevator mirror she stared at the unfamiliar silhouette.

She touched the underside of one breast through the dress and felt her own body answer with a slow, trapped pulse of arousal.

Her fingers were shaking.

At the door Madhuri spoke again.

“Philip tomorrow,” she said. “You’ll need the rest of today to adjust to the new weight.”

Kusum looked back.

“The same man?”

“The same man.”

Kusum's expression did not change.

“What do we know?”

“Enough to continue.”

“Complaints?”

“Several. The details are consistent. He also has a habit of paying women to keep quiet.”

Kusum nodded.

“And he still thinks he's in control?”

Madhuri smiled faintly.

“He thinks you're his.”

Kusum looked at herself in the mirror.

“Then let him keep thinking that.”

Madhuri paused at the door.

“Try not to disappoint him.”

Kusum left.

In the elevator, she stared at the reflection.

Some days she couldn't tell which part of herself was real anymore.

She walked to the waiting car, already feeling the hormones working through her body.

That night she opened the encrypted journal and typed:

Maintenance complete.
