Chapter 2 β The Secret Behind His Long Hair
Scene: Kethan's Bedroom β Late Afternoon
Since childhood, Kethan had admired women's clothing, hairstyles, and jewellery. While other boys eagerly visited the barber, he always asked to keep his hair long.
His mother once asked him, "Why do you love your hair so much?"
"I don't know, Amma. I just like it."
As he grew older, his curiosity became more private. Whenever the house was empty, he would open the wardrobe and admire the sarees and long dresses hanging inside.
He never understood why the soft fabrics and colourful clothes fascinated him so deeply.
One afternoon, while searching for an old document, he discovered a forgotten pink dupatta in a storage trunk. He held it against himself and stood before the mirror.
For a few seconds, he imagined what he might look like wearing it.
Footsteps suddenly sounded in the corridor.
He folded the dupatta quickly.
Padma appeared at the doorway.
"What are you hiding?"
"Nothing. I was searching for a file."
She noticed the cloth in his hand but did not question him further.
Instead, she glanced at his hair and smiled.
"Your hair is longer than mine now!"
Kethan laughed nervously.
That evening, he lay awake thinking about the moment before the mirror. He wondered whether his feelings were simple curiosity or something more meaningful.
He loved Ananya, valued his marriage, and wanted to live peacefully with his family. Yet he had never felt comfortable discussing this private part of himself.
For the first time, he wondered whether understanding himself might be more important than hiding forever.
