Chapter 17 — The First Night Together
The bedroom was decorated with rose petals, soft lights, and jasmine flowers. Outside, the sounds of the wedding celebration had slowly faded.
Sowjanya sat near the edge of the bed, adjusting the pleats of her maroon silk saree. Her gold bangles moved gently as she touched the jasmine flowers in her braid.
Arjun entered quietly.
"You look beautiful," he said.
Sowjanya lowered her eyes, smiling shyly.
For a few moments, neither spoke. The silence was not uncomfortable. It was filled with the excitement of two people beginning a new life together.
Arjun sat beside her and asked about her day. Sowjanya told him how overwhelmed she had felt during the ceremonies and how much she missed Lakshmi Devi.
Arjun listened carefully.
He gently held her hand. Sowjanya looked at him, her expression softening. They shared a tender kiss and embraced, both comfortable with the closeness they had chosen.
Later, they spoke about their dreams: a peaceful home, children someday if they both wished, and a life where they could support each other.
Sowjanya rested her head on Arjun's shoulder.
"Promise me that we will always talk honestly," she whispered.
"I promise," he answered.
That night, Sowjanya fell asleep believing that love would help them overcome every challenge.
