Part 1

Preface

Kranthi Kumar and Kiranmayee are a newly wed couple in their early 20s. Kiran is an MBA grad from Pune University. They were originally from Tamil Nadu but settled in Pune. She was the only child for her parents. She got married immediately after finishing her college. She was a kabaddi player in school and university. She represented Maharashtra in National Games as well. She always had a flair for marketing and she wanted to have a career in it. But her father forced her to marry Kranthi as their priest told them it was a good match.

Kranthi was an engineer from Vellore Institute of technology. He belonged to a simple and a traditional family from village near Salem. His mother was a dance teacher and he learnt classical dance from her. Being the only child for his parents, he had humble beginnings and grew up like an introvert. He never had thick friends in boys as they always either bullied him for being girly or avoided him for being too classy for them. He was a cler misfit amongst boys. This troubled him a lot when he was a kid. His mom used to distract him by making him concentrate on studies and dance. As a schools student he won prestigious award in Thanjavur for his dance. Wearing makeup, jewellery or saree was not alien to him. After joining college, realised his strengths and and weaknesses and focused more on studies and became a topper. He got a job in animation industry in hyderabad. He lived a simple life in a rented 2BHK 3KM away from his office. He was just 6 months elder to his wife. But as the horoscopes matched, his parents were convinced that he will have good life with Kiran.

Chapter 1
The honeymoon period.

After marriage they settled in his 2BHK flat in hyderabad. Soon they found that they completed eachother. Kiran was an aggressive and strong tomboy girl who wasn't very good at managing household chores. She was good at managing money and lifting heavy bags or gas cylinders etc... but far from perfect in cooking. She hated doing household chores before her marriage. But now she was learning to do it. She loved to ride bikes. She used to go from Pune to Mumbai or shirdi on friends' bikes. She rode heavy bikes like a pro. Now in hyderabad they own a honda Activa which Kranthi used to commute daily. So whenever they had to go out to get some groceries or fruits or vegetables etc, she used to volunteer to go out on bike. Kranthi was pretty much happy with an eccentric wife. He was good at all chores of the house he tried to teach her how to cook, sew & paint etc... but she was a slow learner in these things. He often took her help in fixing tubelights or moving furniture or when plumbing was needed. He thought she was really helpful as he hated going out or interacting with others.

They both felt that God has indeed given them a spouse who filled the gaps in their own character. Kiran needed someone with a cool, composed & calm head who will not judge her for her lack of some skills needed by every woman. Kranthi also needed someone whom he can rely on, someone who supports him and brings the much needed liveliness to his sedate, boring & lonely life.

Their love blossomed when on bed. They became one soul in 2 bodies. Just within 2 months they became inseparable thanking the gods for this marriage. They deliberately postponed pregnancy as they both wanted to have an own house before bringing a life onto earth. They both decided to find better jobs to achieve their dreams.

Chapter 2
The careers.

Kiran got a job in a marketing firm as she always wanted to. Her role demanded her to travel a lot so she took the bike. As Kranthi's office was nearby, he depended on uber or rapido. Sometimes when her business meetings were near to his office, she used to either drop him or pick him or both. Kranthi continued in his job while searching for a better one. He got some offers in other cities but they decided not to accept as they wanted to be equidistant from both parents. Hyderabad was ideal for them.

Their work life balance was disturbed when Kiran faced extreme pressure on sales. She used to go early and come late. She worked really hard. Yet when she succeeded, she used to hear comments like "it's easy for girls to do sales. All they need to do is put makeup and say 'please sir' while adjusting their pallu and bat the eyelids a few times". This made her resolve that she will prove them wrong. She avoided makeup, dressed in smart office casuals like trousers and full shirts and Sometimes wearing a blazer and a tie when they go to meet big clients. All these efforts made her visible under limelight in office. Even top bosses started recognising her by name. This envyed all her male colleagues.

This meant kiran was doing more chores. He took pride in her and her success. He was gladly packing her luch box or ironing her clothes. She loved him the way he helped. These small things meant a lot for her. She knew kranthi was doing the bulk of works at home. So to compensate, she bought gifts for him whenever she was late. She giftem him many things like a tie, a smart watch, a fountain pen etc which he rarely used. Finally she ended up using them and felt guilty about it as well. She always urged him to use his gifts. But he simply said I already have it, or I will use it for any occasion etc. Finally she she asked him what he wanted. He said I wanted to buy a sherwani in manyavar for upcoming festival. She said "It's a deal. I will buy it for you. Let's go out on weekend and buy it"

Chapter 3
The gifts.

But on the weekend, she got busy with a rescheduled meeting. Her boss insisted her to work that day and take compensatory off on one of the working days. Kiran always believed that a good salesman should always be ready 24x7 for business. So she said sorry to Kranthi and promised to take him to shopping some other day. As days were passing and she was not getting such opportunity, she asked him his favourite colour and size so that she can order something for him in myntra or ajio so that she can easily return it if he doesn't like it or it doesn't fit him properly.

He told her that he likes majenta and lavender colours. She ordered 2 kurtha pyjamas for him. And told him that when the items arrive he has to wear them first and check if it fits properly. If he is fully satisfied , then only he should cut the price tags and barcodes. She also ordered 2 kurthis for herself in same colours. Since these colours are rare for men, they had to shipped from long distance. So her clothes were delivered first. As Kranthi did not know that she ordered for herself also, he thought they were for him only. Upon arrival, he wore them and found that the collars were different. One had a deep neck (not too deep for him) and One had chinese collar. He like the embroidery work and patterns on them. They did not come with any dupatta so he never guessd that theywere woman's clothes. He found that the pant fitting was a little bit snug for him. They were different and he like it. Though the found the deep neck one as odd..., he did not want to return them as she bought something for the first time and he did not want to offend her. He cut the tags and threw them away.

When she came home, he thanked her for the gifts and kissed her. He told her that he checked them by wearing them and he liked them very much. She checked her notification and found that he misunderstood it as his clothes. But as He was in a good mood, she thought of telling him later after dinner. She was getting calls from office even while having dinner. So she ate slowly while talking over phone. He finished quickly and went into the bedroom and took out the one with collar and wore it and came in front of her. She wanted to laugh.., but as she was on phone, all she could do was to bring out a big smile looking at him and continued to finish the call. He took it as her approval and went back into bedroom and changes into another one and paraded before her. She did the same thing again. So he went back and changed into his normal clothes.

She finished the call and went into bedroom. She controlled her laugh and asked him with a smile "Can I see your clothes again?". "Just now I changed back na...I will not wear again. If you want to see, take our from the cover in my wardrobe and see them and put them back" he replied. She took out the covers and started to undress for trying them. He stopped her and asked her why she was doing that. She replied that she wanted to wear it once and see. He replied saying that those colours will not suit her skintone. Despite his warnings she wore them and found that he was right, the colours did not suit her. She found that the tags were removed. So she could not even return them back. Thus she did not reveal him anything and thought 'anyways he will not go anywhere without me. There is no harm in wearing these at home. All I need to do it to stop him if he wants to wear it outside by something or the other'. So she secretly returned the other merchandise which were meant for him before they arrived.

Chapter 4
The festival.

On the day of festival, he wore the magenta dress. She controlled her laugh and played along as if nothing was out of place. She wore a saree and helped him in preparing food, doing pooja etc. after Pooja he changes back into his old clothes and kept the dress aside to wear it in the evening for temple. In the evening when they were getting ready for temple, she asked him to wear a blue jeans and red shirt as she was wearing similar colour kurthi and wanted to go out as twinning couple. He agreed and did the same.

He wore it back after a couple of days and washed it. Satisfied that it neither shrinked not lose any colour, he cherished it even more. He kept wearing it again and again atleast once in a week. She asked him why he was wearing it so often. He said he liked it a lot. She got used to seeing him in it and when he wore it again, she asked what about the other one. He said he will wear it for the next festival.

On next festival, as decided already, he wore the lavender one which had a deep neck. She expected this and hence did not laugh and spoil his mood. He asked her if it was nice on him with a doubt in his mind. She replied it was very good. He asked her "isn't this collar a little bit different? It shows a lot of my neck". She said "That's because it is supposed to be worn with a chain in neck" Saying that, she took a chain from her collection and put it in his neck. He was amazed how a simple addition changed his entire look. Now he was gleaming. He really liked the chain especially the heart shaped pendant it had. Yet he said "But this is yours. How can I wear it?" She replied "WHAT IS WRONG IN IT?"
