Chapter 23: The First Morning of a Real Wife

Sunita woke up to the familiar feeling of a rough, heavy arm draped possessively across her waist.

Her eyes fluttered open in the dim early morning light filtering through the small window. The thin mat on the floor felt damp with humidity and their combined sweat from the night before. Her body ached in new and intimate places, a deep soreness between her thighs, tenderness in her heavy breasts, and faint red marks on her hips where Ramesh’s fingers had gripped her during the night.

The mangalsutra lay heavy between her breasts, the gold pendant sticky against her skin. She was completely naked except for that sacred thread and the faded sindoor still visible in her hair parting. Ramesh’s warm breath brushed against the back of her neck. His rough hand rested possessively on the soft curve of her bare hip.

This is real, she thought, a wave of fresh humiliation crashing over her. I actually did it. I let him…

She lay there for a long moment, staring at the cracked ceiling, feeling the sticky remnants of last night on her thighs. The memory of his weight on her, his rough hands exploring her borrowed feminine body, the reluctant but very real sensations, it all made her want to disappear.

But there was no disappearing now.

She gently moved Ramesh’s arm and sat up. The cool morning air kissed her naked skin, making her nipples harden. She quickly wrapped the old nightie around herself, feeling strangely shy even after what had happened.

Ramesh stirred awake. He looked at her with a mix of tenderness and quiet possession.

“Subah ho gayi… Sunita.”

She nodded silently, lowering her gaze like a proper wife.

The morning routine began as usual, but now it carried a heavier weight.

She lit the kerosene stove, the smoke making her eyes water. She made tea for Ramesh while he got ready for work. The tight blouse and faded saree she wore today felt different after last night. Every movement reminded her of her new status. The mangalsutra swayed between her breasts. The glass bangles clinked as she poured tea. Her thighs still felt sore.

Ramesh drank his tea, watching her quietly. Before leaving, he gently touched her shoulder.

“Pihu ke liye… humein yeh mahina poora karna hoga. Swamy ne kaha tha… agar beech mein tode toh sab wapas ho jayega.”

Sunita nodded, heart heavy.

They reached the hospital by 9 AM.

The moment they entered the pediatric ward, the doctor came out with a stunned but relieved expression.

“It’s a miracle. Her fever broke completely overnight. All vitals are stable. The infection markers have dropped dramatically. We’ve never seen anything like this.”

Pihu was awake.

The little girl saw Sunita and immediately stretched her tiny arms.

“Mummy…!”

Sunita rushed forward and hugged her tightly, tears flowing freely down her cheeks. The child smelled of hospital antiseptic but felt warm and alive. For several minutes, Sunita just held her, rocking gently, feeling the genuine maternal relief wash over her.

The Swamy’s words echoed in both their minds:

Truly live as husband and wife for one full month… only then will the child be safe.

Ramesh and Sunita exchanged a silent, heavy glance. They both understood. Breaking the vow now could reverse everything.

Nithya arrived shortly after.

She stood at the door, watching the scene, Sunita in her faded saree, holding Pihu like a real mother, mangalsutra visible, sindoor bright. Her expression was a complex mix of disappointment, worry, and reluctant understanding.

Sunita saw her and immediately slipped into her role completely. She adjusted her pallu modestly, lowered her gaze, and greeted her in the soft Bihari accent she had been practicing.

“Namaste… Nithya Madam. Aap aayi… bahut accha hua. Pihu theek ho gayi hai.”

Nithya’s eyes widened slightly at being addressed so formally, but she played along.

“I’m glad she’s better,” she said softly, looking at Sunita with a thousand unsaid words. “Are you… okay?”

Sunita gave a small, shy nod, exactly like a modest migrant wife would.

“Yes, Madam. Sab theek hai.”

The disappointment in Nithya’s eyes was clear. She had hoped Sunita would come back yesterday. But seeing Pihu healthy and the genuine bond, she understood why her boyfriend had chosen this path.

Before leaving, Nithya whispered quietly when Ramesh stepped away for a moment:

“If it becomes too much… call me. I’ll find a way.”

Sunita only smiled sadly and adjusted her pallu.

They brought Pihu back home in the evening.

The tiny house felt warmer now with the child’s presence. Sunita immediately slipped back into her role, cooking, cleaning, washing Pihu’s clothes, feeding her soft khichdi. The housework that once felt like torture now felt almost necessary. She didn’t want to be a burden. She told herself that again and again.

By night, exhaustion had settled deep into her bones.

They lay down on the mat, Pihu safely in the middle, Sunita on one side, Ramesh on the other.

The child slept peacefully between them, breathing softly.

Sunita stared at the ceiling in the darkness, feeling Ramesh’s occasional glance toward her. The mangalsutra pressed against her chest. Her body still remembered last night. An entire month stretched ahead of her like an endless road.

Fuck… what have I done?

A whole month of this. As his real wife. Cooking, cleaning, factory work, sleeping beside him… and more.

She cursed herself silently, tears slipping down the corners of her eyes.

Yet when Pihu stirred and snuggled closer to her breasts, whispering “Mummy” in her sleep, a strange, warm ache filled her chest.

One month.

It felt like forever.

And yet… she knew she would endure it.

Hi Jeru, loved the story. Please post "your name" also. Also consider my old suggestion of doing a fully forced fem story. Like with a villain and all. Haha. Let me know if we can connect somewhere in social media.

Great story, Jeru! Never saw that Part 33 twist coming. The whole story was a roller coaster from start to finish, and it was definitely worth the wait. Crazy writing, crazy imagination. Loved every bit of it.

Thank youu very much, means a lot to me 💫 I've been learning different ways of story telling, predominantly Monomyth and Freyteg's pyramid, I'll try to incorporate more of those with increased allegorical elements ( ꈍᴗꈍ)

If y'all remember, I had teased a story named "Your Name.", i deemed it be of a entirely different genre, might not be suitable for this community. Perhaps if y'all are interested, I'll publish it in Wattpad...

And again sorry for the delay in publication of the story. Contradictory to my initial small story idea, it ballooned to 42 Main chapters, which i had to write, proof check and upload in the website, damnnn it was exhausting 🫪
