# Chapter: A New Beginning for Suma

As Janakamma collapsed to the floor, Suma quickly caught her before she could fall. Raghuram rushed over and supported her from the other side. **Ragini** hurried to the kitchen, brought a glass of water, and gently sprinkled some on Janakamma's face.

After a few moments, Janakamma slowly regained consciousness.

The moment she opened her eyes, she clung tightly to Raghuram and burst into uncontrollable tears.

Raghuram gently comforted her.

"Please calm down," he said softly. "Suma... Ragini... prepare the bed in her room. She needs some rest."

The two girls immediately went to Janakamma's bedroom. It was already neat and clean, so they simply arranged the pillows and blankets before helping her lie down.

But even after lying on the bed, Janakamma couldn't stop crying.

Raghuram sat beside her and held her hand.

"Please don't cry, Jaanu," he said gently.

Normally, he always called her **Janaki**. But whenever he called her **Jaanu**, it meant he was deeply worried and trying with all his heart to comfort her. Janakamma knew that.

"We never imagined something like this would happen. We never failed Surekha as parents. We gave her everything we could. Neither she nor we ever imagined that Satish would turn out to be such a cruel man.

But crying won't solve anything. We will find a way. We will think carefully and bring our daughter back. Please don't lose hope."

It took almost an hour of comforting before Janakamma slowly became calm.

Seeing that she had finally settled down, Raghuram quietly left the room.

But within five minutes, Janakamma started crying again. Holding Suma tightly, she sobbed,

"How much suffering our Surekha has gone through, Suma..."

Suma and Ragini exchanged helpless glances.

Taking a deep breath, Suma spoke with surprising confidence.

"Amma...

I feel terrible for Akka. My heart is breaking too.

But right now, we cannot rescue her immediately.

That doesn't mean we've lost her.

We'll bring her back someday.

She didn't choose this life. Other people forced it upon her.

Has our sister become impure because of someone else's sins?

No.

She is still our Surekha.

And it is our responsibility to save her.

Please be patient.

I promise you... we will bring Akka home.

I'm saying this as your daughter, Suma.

When I give my word, I keep it."

For the first time since the video call ended, a tiny spark of hope appeared in Janakamma's heart.

Her crying slowly faded.

Ragini watched Suma with admiration.

It had already amazed her that Suma had accepted becoming a woman to fulfill her mother's wish.

But now she realized something even greater.

Suma no longer thought of herself as a son at all.

She had completely embraced her identity as a woman, not out of helplessness, but with love and determination for her family.

Ragini smiled quietly.

"I've been lucky," she thought.

"Suma isn't just my uncle's child anymore. She's become my closest friend."

At that moment, Ragini silently promised herself that she would never leave Suma's side during this journey.

---

That difficult night somehow came to an end.

Before sunrise, around five o'clock, the peaceful sound of a temple bell echoed through the house.

The sweet fragrance of burning incense filled every room.

Janakamma slowly walked out of her bedroom toward the prayer room.

The sight before her left her speechless.

Suma had already bathed and was standing before Goddess Durga.

She wore a beautiful parrot-green silk saree, her freshly washed hair tied neatly behind her, and was performing the morning prayers with complete devotion.

Janakamma stood silently at the doorway, resting her chin on her hand, unable to take her eyes off her daughter.

Soon Ragini also arrived.

She stood beside Janakamma, watching Suma with both admiration and affection.

A few moments later, Raghuram walked in as well.

He looked proudly at his daughter, unable to hide the happiness in his eyes.

After completing the prayers, Suma turned toward them with a gentle smile.

"Prasadam is ready for everyone.

Please go and take your baths.

Last night I spoke to our family priest. He told me to perform a forty-day prayer to Goddess Durga for Amma's health and for all our family's troubles to come to an end.

Today was the first day."

For a moment, no one spoke.

The same surprise...

The same happiness...

The same tears...

Filled all three of their eyes.

Raghuram quietly nodded, went for his bath, and returned to receive the sacred offering.

Janakamma and Ragini did the same.

---

At exactly nine o'clock that morning, Raghuram called both Suma and Ragini into the living room.

"I have good news.

Today we're going to **St. Joseph's Women's College** to complete admissions for both of you.

And Suma...

This evening, we're beginning your first **Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)** session."

Suma looked at him in surprise.

"I've already spoken with a team of doctors," Raghuram continued.

"The psychologist and the endocrinologist are actually my classmates from school.

They asked me to bring Ragini along too.

They said that having family support during transition is extremely important. They also said that living with another young woman of the same age can make the emotional journey much easier.

So Ragini, you're coming with us this evening."

Ragini smiled and nodded immediately.

That morning, the three of them visited **St. Joseph's Women's College** and completed all the admission formalities.

After returning home and having lunch together, they left again in the evening for Suma's first psychological counseling session.

Inside the clinic, "Dr. Charulatha" noticed Raghuram entering with two young women.

Smiling, she asked,

"Raghu... where's your son?"

Raghuram smiled proudly.

"Here she is.

This is Suma.

And this is Ragini.

Among these two girls... Suma is the child who was once my son."

For a few seconds, Dr. Charulatha simply stood there, staring at Suma in complete astonishment.
