The applause continued even after Arjun had stepped away from the stage. The extended family surrounded him with smiles and genuine admiration. The people who had once looked at him through assumptions now looked at him simply as Arjun—their nephew, cousin and family member who had just delivered an extraordinary performance. One uncle shook his hand. "Arjun, that was fantastic." Another elder smiled proudly. "We never knew you had this level of talent." The younger cousins were even more enthusiastic. "That Shiva performance was completely different!" "And Archana's performance was beautiful too!" The girls from Archana's college group were equally excited. One girl said, "Your Shakti performance was so graceful." Another added, "And the Shiva performance afterward was incredibly powerful." Arjun smiled, slightly embarrassed by all the attention. "Thank you." There was no contradiction in the way anyone spoke about the two performances. They had understood something important. Archana and Arjun were the same person. The feminine presentation had been part of one performance. The masculine presentation had been part of another. Neither cancelled the other. Rohit, Vikram and Karthick were still celebrating. "You completely fooled us!" Rohit laughed. "We thought your programme was finished." Vikram shook his head. "Then your teacher announced one more performer." Karthick grinned. "And suddenly Arjun appeared." Prakash laughed. "My mother planned it carefully." Rohit pointed toward him. "You knew!" "Enough to keep quiet." Everyone laughed. Then Arjun walked toward his teacher. He bent down and touched her feet. She placed both hands over his head. "May you always dance with sincerity." "Thank you, Amma." She smiled. "Today you showed everyone that classical dance can contain many expressions." Arjun folded his hands. Her blessing meant more to him than the applause. Once everything was packed and the programme was officially over, the entire family went to the temple. They completed the poojai, received prasadam and spent a few peaceful minutes together. Then everyone returned home. Rohit, Vikram, Karthick and Prakash came along with the family. The moment they entered the house, Arjun looked completely exhausted. He walked straight to the sofa. Dropped onto it. Put his right leg on the headrest. Then called casually, "Amma... give me some water." Lakshmi smiled. "Wait." She brought him a glass. He drank it quickly. Kavitha laughed. "You're completely finished." "I danced twice." "Fair enough." Lakshmi touched his head affectionately. "Go rest." Arjun closed his eyes. For a few minutes, the room was peaceful. Then Rohit looked at him. "So..." Arjun opened one eye. "What?" "Is this going to be normal now?" Arjun thought for a moment. "I don't know." He sat up slightly. "But I know something." "What?" "I can be Arjun when I want to be Arjun." He paused. "And I can be Archana when I want to be Archana." Everyone listened. "They're both me." Kavitha smiled. Arjun laughed. "Although Archana is definitely more organized." "Definitely," Kavitha said immediately. Everyone laughed. Suresh suddenly spoke from the side. "Why don't you all have a party tonight?" Rohit immediately brightened. "Seriously?" "Go buy whatever you need. Use the terrace." He looked at Lakshmi. "Okay?" Lakshmi smiled. "Today is a special day." Suresh nodded. "We'll make food here." Arjun stood up. "I'll prepare the side dishes." Then he looked toward his mother. "Give me some time." Lakshmi smiled. "Go." Arjun went to his room. A little while later, he came back as Archana. It wasn't a stage transformation this time. There was no elaborate costume, no heavy jewellery and no performance makeup. She simply chose the appearance in which she felt comfortable for the evening. She changed into a simple feminine home outfit, arranged her hair and came downstairs. Kavitha looked at her. "Ready?" Archana nodded. "Let's cook." She entered the kitchen and began preparing the food. She made chicken fry, fish fry, onion pakoda, spicy chutney and several small accompaniments for the terrace gathering. Lakshmi watched her. "You just performed twice." "I know." "And you're cooking now?" Archana laughed. "Everyone needs to eat." Kavitha entered the kitchen and immediately stole a piece. Archana slapped her hand playfully. "Wait!" "It's only one piece!" "Go." Kavitha laughed and ran away. Meanwhile, Rohit, Vikram and Karthick went out to buy the drinks and other supplies. Vikram was unusually thoughtful. He had noticed something. Archana had said she didn't want alcohol. He didn't know whether it was simply because she was tired, because of personal preference, or because she wanted to remain comfortable in her Archana presentation. He didn't ask. Instead, while shopping, he picked up several bottles of Heineken 0.0 as well. When they returned, the terrace was ready. Suresh had brought chicken and fish. Archana had finished preparing the side dishes. Prakash arranged the Bluetooth speaker. Rohit connected his phone. Music began playing softly. Everyone settled down. Vikram handed Archana a bottle. "Here." She looked at it. "Heineken 0.0?" "Yeah. You said you didn't want alcohol." Archana smiled. "Thanks." She opened it and joined the group. Vikram watched her for a moment. His doubts hadn't completely disappeared. But he didn't ask. He simply accepted that this was another part of the person he had known for years. The evening became lively. Rohit, Vikram and Karthick laughed about the performances. Prakash complained about how much equipment he had to carry. Suresh teased them about their future business. Archana listened, occasionally joining the conversation. At one point Rohit raised his bottle. "To Arjun and Archana!" Everyone laughed. Archana shook her head. "Please don't make a speech." Rohit grinned. "Fine. To our friend." Everyone raised their bottles. "To our friend." Archana smiled. Eventually, the conversation moved toward business. Rohit looked at Suresh. "Uncle, we were talking about starting something together." Suresh nodded. "Good. What?" "We don't know yet." Suresh laughed. "Then you have successfully started nothing." Everyone laughed. He continued more seriously. "Don't rush because you have money coming." Vikram nodded. "We were thinking about using the restitution amount." "Once it arrives, treat it as investment capital." Karthick asked, "Should we start one business?" "Not necessarily." Suresh explained that they could initially create a small investment-oriented company, rent a modest office and research opportunities before committing to a particular operating business. "Don't spend the capital simply because you have it," he told them. Rohit nodded. "We'll research first." "Exactly." Prakash asked, "What about me? I'm joining a corporate job." Arjun smiled. "You can still be part of the five." "But I won't have much time." "That's okay." Archana joined the conversation. "You don't have to sacrifice your career immediately. Build your experience first." Prakash nodded. "Then later?" "Later you decide." Everyone agreed. The exact business would be decided after the restitution money arrived and they had properly researched the options. For tonight, the important thing was simply that the five friends had a common plan. As the night grew quieter, Lakshmi stood near the terrace doorway. She watched Archana laughing with the boys. A few feet away, Suresh was talking about business. Kavitha was listening while occasionally stealing food from Archana's plate. Lakshmi smiled. Earlier in the day, she had watched Arjun dance as Shiva. She had watched Archana dance as Shakti. Now she was watching the same child sitting among friends, eating food she had cooked and laughing over an ordinary conversation. There was no need to choose. There was no need to ask which one was real. They were both real. They were both her child. And for the first time, that thought brought her peace. The festival had ended. The applause had faded. But something much more important had begun at home—the freedom to let Arjun and Archana exist without fear, without judgment, and without forcing one expression to destroy the other.
