Chapter 5 — The Temple Morning The temple visit was the moment Arjun had been quietly waiting for. The morning began early. Nandu had arranged fresh jasmine and kanakambaram, while Maya prepared the accessories. Arjun sat patiently as his friends brushed his long hair and made the familiar single braid. This time the braid was much longer. Nandu carefully decorated it with flowers, alternating jasmine with small clusters of kanakambaram and a few roses. The colors stood out beautifully against the dark hair. Before they left, Arjun looked at himself in the mirror. He was dressed traditionally, his braid falling neatly down his back, flowers resting along its length. He smiled—not because he looked like someone else, but because he recognized the person who had chosen this journey. At the temple, the three friends walked together quietly. The morning atmosphere was peaceful, filled with bells, flowers and soft sunlight. Maya took a few photographs, but she also put the camera away for a while. Nandu did the same. They wanted to experience the moment rather than document every second. After the prayers, Arjun touched the flowers in his braid and thanked his friends for supporting something that had once seemed like a strange little idea. Nandu laughed and said, “Tomorrow's flowers are already ordered.” Arjun shook his head in amusement. The temple visit did not feel like a performance. It felt like another ordinary day in a life that had gradually become more open, more expressive and more comfortable.
