Chapter 16 - This Time, His Choice

The next morning, Ishan did not take a tablet.

Ritika carried both cartons to their regular clinic. The doctor reviewed the labels, asked how long Ishan had taken the wrong medicine, and arranged a basic examination and tests.

The visit remained practical.

He was told not to restart either packet on his own. The remaining tablets were kept aside, and a follow-up was arranged after the results.

Two days later, the doctor explained that the physical changes were consistent with long exposure to the hormone tablets. Stopping them would prevent the accidental course from continuing, but the changes would not all disappear immediately.

What happened next had to be a separate decision.

"If you want your body to move back towards its earlier pattern, we can discuss that," the doctor said. "If you want to continue feminization, that also needs to be discussed properly and monitored. Neither path should happen through an incorrect packet."

Ishan looked at Ritika.

She did not answer for him.

For months, his body had changed without his informed agreement. Now that somebody was asking what he wanted, the answer felt frighteningly important.

"I do not want to continue the mistake," he said.

The doctor waited.

"But I also do not want to return to my old appearance only because the mistake has stopped."

Ishan touched the hair resting on his shoulder.

"I like looking softer. I like my long hair, feminine clothes, and the way I feel when the full look comes together."

He paused before saying the part that mattered most.

"I want to continue becoming more feminine. This time I want to understand it and choose it safely."

The doctor explained that any supported path would be gradual and would require follow-up. Ishan listened, asked what the next appointment would involve, and agreed to make no medical change before that discussion.

The details could come later.

The direction was already his.

On the way home, Ritika waited until they were inside the cab before speaking.

"Are you certain?"

"About every future step? No."

Ishan looked out of the window.

"About the direction, yes."

"And what do you want people to call you?"

"I am still Ishan."

He answered without hesitation.

"I am not ready to change everything together."

"You do not have to."

At home, Ritika went to her room and returned with the maroon and plum kurtis folded over her arm.

"These both fit you," she said. "Keep them if you want."

Ishan touched the maroon cloth.

"Not in the laundry basket?"

"Not in the laundry basket."

"Mine?"

"Yours."

He carried both kurtis into his room.

For the first time, he did not need to wait for Ritika to leave.

Ishan wore the maroon kurti with the black leggings. He combed his hair into the open-but-controlled style and fixed both sides with the black tic-tac clips.

He left the lipstick and bangles untouched.

This step was not about creating his most complete appearance. It was about opening the bedroom door while wearing something Ritika had previously seen only by accident.

Ishan stood behind the closed door for nearly a minute.

Then he opened it.

Ritika was reading a message at the dining table. She looked up when he entered.

Ishan stopped near the end of the table.

"This is the maroon one," he said unnecessarily.

"I know."

"It feels different when you are here."

"Bad different?"

He considered the question.

"More real."

Ritika looked at the two clips holding his hair and then at his face.

"Do you want me to say anything?"

Ishan was grateful that she asked.

"Just tell me if something is sitting badly."

"The left clip is slightly higher. Everything else is fine."

He adjusted the clip.

"Now?"

"Even."

Ritika returned to her message.

"Tea?"

Ishan smiled.

"I will make it."

He entered the kitchen wearing the kurti openly.

There was no hiding, no warning message, and no need to calculate when Ritika might return. When he carried the cups to the table, she accepted hers as if the maroon kurti had already become part of their home.

For Ishan, it had.

That evening, he opened the private chat he shared with Naina and Priya.

He typed a message, deleted it, and then asked whether they were free for a short call.

Both joined ten minutes later.

Ishan wore his ordinary T-shirt for the call. His hair remained clipped back in the style they already knew.

"This is personal," he began. "Nothing from this call should go into another chat or office conversation."

Naina nodded.

"Understood."

Priya added, "Only the three of us."

Ishan explained that the leggings had not remained his only feminine home clothes. He told them he had begun wearing kurtis privately, had tried simple makeup and bangles, and had discovered that he wanted to continue becoming more feminine.

He kept the medicine details brief.

"Some physical changes began through a tablet mistake," he said. "That part was not my choice. I have stopped those tablets and received a proper check."

He took a breath.

"After learning the truth, I still chose the feminine direction. Any medical step from now on will be informed and monitored."

Neither woman rushed to answer.

Naina spoke first.

"Thank you for trusting us."

Priya asked, "What do you need from us now?"

The question helped.

"Privacy first."

"Done," Priya said.

"And I want to try a smaller name with people I trust."

Ishan had considered several possibilities. He was not ready for a completely different name, but one familiar name felt right.

"Didi has called me Ishu for years. I want you both to call me Ishu in this private chat."

Naina repeated it once.

"Ishu."

The name sounded softer in her voice without feeling like a stranger's name.

"Only here," Ishan clarified. "At work and in every office group, I am still Ishan."

"Pronouns?" Naina asked.

"He and him for now."

Priya counted the boundaries on her fingers.

"Private chat: Ishu. Office: Ishan. He and him everywhere. We tell nobody."

"Yes."

"Then that is what we will do," she said.

Ishan relaxed against his chair.

He had not shown them a kurti or complete feminine presentation. That would be a different threshold and would happen only if he chose it.

For tonight, sharing the direction was enough.

After the call ended, a new message appeared in the private chat.

**Naina:** Good night, Ishu.

Priya added:

**And no disappearing when we ask if you ate dinner, Ishu.**

Ishan smiled and replied:

**Good night. And I ate.**

The name existed only inside one trusted circle.

That was exactly where he wanted it to begin.
