Chapter 2 — A Secret Behind the Uniform
Sujan's life followed a strict routine. He woke early, exercised, attended duty, and spent his evenings reviewing case files. His colleagues admired his discipline, while his senior officers trusted him with difficult investigations.
Yet, when he returned to his apartment, another side of him quietly emerged.
One evening, after a long day at work, Sujan stood before his mirror. His hair had grown slightly longer, falling near his shoulders. He brushed it carefully, parting it differently and tying it loosely behind his head. He studied his reflection with a strange mixture of nervousness and comfort.
He tried several hairstyles: a low ponytail, a loose side part, and a small bun. Each style changed the way he saw himself. His expressions shifted too—from curiosity to embarrassment, then to a peaceful smile.
He sometimes wondered whether these feelings meant something deeper about his identity.
At the police station, he remained the same serious officer. At home, however, he allowed himself to explore the questions he could not yet answer.
He had no one to talk to about it. He feared that people would misunderstand him.
One night, he whispered to his reflection, "Who am I when nobody is watching?"
The question remained unanswered, but for the first time, Sujan did not push it away.
